Somewhat Disappointed

Fred12 3/3/2022

I have been using the watch for over 6 months, and in general, I like the watch. It looks great, and the apps and features are nice. Having said that, battery life is awful. I have to recharge it daily. Since I'm wearing it all day, that means I have to charge it at night. That then means that I can't wear it in bed, so the sleep monitoring features are useless.

Horrible battery life

tman 2/12/2022

The good. The bad. And the ugly. I purchased 2x Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classics six days ago. I purchased them from T-Mobile with a BOGO offer. I purchased a black 46mm for myself and the silver 42mm for my wife. The good: I love the 4G LTE capability. Making/receiving calls without having the phone nearby was a primary reason for the purchase. Unfortunately, I still can't get a good signal in some areas where I live. If Samsung incorporates a 5G chipset and the cell providers (T-Mobile in my case) increase coverage, maybe that will fix that problem. But, I digress. The bad: I have a Fitbit Charge 5 that I recently purchased. I planned to retire that once I had the Watch4, but I will be keeping the Fitbit now that I'm returning the 2x Watch4 devices. Fitbit does have better reporting data and charts compared to Samsung Health. I'm sure Samsung can narrow that gap though. I found it interesting that the step count was different between the Fitbit and the Galaxy watch. Not sure which one is more accurate though. The ugly. The battery life is absolutely horrible. It takes the 46mm 2 hours to fully charge. I was finding that I was getting about 18 hours a day on battery life. I would charge it before going to bed so I could wear it for the sleep monitoring and data collection. By 5pm in the afternoon, it would die. I take a 3-4 mile walk in the morning and another 3-4 mile walk after work (around 5-6pm). In order to accommodate my schedule, I would need to charge it 2x per day. Not acceptable. I turned off Wifi, turned off Bluetooth, and dimmed the screen. I didn't make or receive any phone calls on it. The device just sucks up too much energy given the battery capacity. The battery isn't "right sized" for the device and use cases. In summary, once Samsung fixes the battery issues, I will try it again. Even if Samsung gave me the watch for free, I couldn't use it due to the need to charge it twice a day. Hopefully, they will have better fitness data collection and reporting capabilities at that time as well.

BMI and continuous heart rate monitor a big plus

Jpk2003 12/1/2021

This is my second Samsung watch. I loved my Samsung watch 3 and upgraded to the classic 4. I love that Google apps are now integrated and the BMI feature. I have had several smart watches in the past including the apple watch and this one beats them all hands down.

Quality hardware, terrible software performance.

MAKE1UP 10/19/2021

Good quality hardware, nice asthetics, but poor software integration. It's amazing that they are trying to compete with Apple with such awful, software performance. Now they want to follow Apples' lead by taking away our SDCard slot, maybe it's time to stop thinking about Apple and drop Samsung all together.

Terrible Battery Life.

Cuzan 10/1/2021

This thing lasts 3 days on airplane mode. What a joke. I traded up from a Galaxy Watch, which had a 472 mAh batter. This one has a 361 mAh battery, but they want you to believe this is an "improvement." My Glaxy Watch would last 7days on airplane mode. Why would the battery size go down over 3 years? Makes no sense. Plus, there are no useful apps on Play store and accessing the apps is an issue. If you're happy with your old watch, do not upgrade!!!! If Samsung fixes my batter issues, I will change this review.

I love this watch

MattressMan 9/27/2021

I bought this Saturday after the launch and have loved it so far! I honestly did not know that these were new watches until I got mine but I'm glad I bought when I bought because this watch has been awesome! This pairs seamlessly with my S21 Ultra and my Galaxy buds! I honestly might buy a Samsung laptop because the inter-device connectivity is seamless and super convenient. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this watch! Now, I have not had the watch outside for many extended hours, so I cannot confirm any overheating issues, but will update my review if I do encounter any issues!

Galaxy Watch 4 LTE CONSTANT OVERHEATING

ZFold3User 9/21/2021

I was excited to finally get this watch because Samsung and Google collaborated on the software and battery life was supposedly a top priority as well as performance. This is my first LTE watch. I wanted to be able to take the watch on runs and listen to music on Spotify from my Galaxy Buds Pro and occasionally be able to respond to a text or call. Whenever this watch is away from my phone and switches to LTE, this watch is constantly overheating and going into Emergency only/Airplane mode. I live in a 5G capable city and went for a walk the other day and was looking forward to tracking my workout and listening to a podcast on the watch with my Buds Pro. Not even 2 mins of walking/listening to Spotify, the Buds disconnect and I feel a vibrate on the watch telling me the watch needs to cool down and features will be unavailable....the watch literally stayed unusable my ENTIRE walk. Completely ruining the vibe and my walking workout. I went swimming the other day, with just the watch...yes it was hot outside but my watch and my wrist were mostly under water and swimming...same thing...watch said overheated and stayed completely unusable and did not track my swimming. This is such a disappointment as MANY people on the web already have posted about this issue with the WATCH 4. Doesn't matter which carrier, they all say the same thing. I paid extra money for the LTE capability and it can't even do that. Not to mention the run around I had with my carrier to get this watch working, not its not even functional unless the phone is with it. I did start a ticket order to send the watch in to Samsung, but I'm not even going to bother as someone stated they have already reached out to Samsung and they did was have them reset/restart the watch. Samsung you need to fix this...people spent extra for this independent device and it's not even usable when it's on its own. What's the point? I might as well should have just bought the BT version instead. Very disappointed as a loyal customer. Very.

Over heats every time I take it for a run

Corey T 9/17/2021

This is an update to my review of 7 days ago. Aside from poor battery life when using Strava and Spotify (battery drains to less than 60% in 45 minutes) the watch is now overheating. I tried to use it on runs the last 3 days. I had spotify and strava open, within 30 seconds the watch overheated. As prior reviewers commented, it seems to be an LTE issue. I tried to chat with Samsung as well as speak to a Customer Service Rep. Their solution is to return the phone and get a refund. I bought the watch so I wouldn't have to carry my phone on runs and hikes. Unfortunately, it is useless when running LTE.

Good watch EXCEPT the LTE Model often overheats

LegalEagle2 9/16/2021

I've had this new Watch 4 LTE for two weeks and like many other buyers have found the LTE model frequently overheats and shuts down when the watch is separated from the phone and goes into LTE mode. This is most likely happening when the watch is searching for an LTE signal, which drains the battery and heats the watch until it goes into a cool down mode. This means you often cannot use this watch while running or as a freestanding device to make or receive calls, making the LTE function unreliable. I traded in a Watch 3 LTE model and had a Watch 2 LTE model before that. Neither prior Samsung LTE watch had such a problem. Samsung support has been noticeably unhelpful and only suggests doing a factory reset, which did not work, or taking it to a technician for repair. The issue, which on the internet is widespread to the LTE model, is very likely to need a software fix, but Samsung has not said anything about that. Aside from this issue (which I consider huge) the phone itself in BT mode is nice, is an improvement on the Watch 3 and has the potential (not yet realized) of having wider access to Google Play apps than the Tizen only software of previous Galaxy watches. Missing from the apps, which was on the prior models, are email and message apps, meaning you can receive emails and SMS messages but it is hard to compose (or dictate) emails or messages unless you are replying to one which just came in.

Constant Overheating

Shaune 9/11/2021

Almost unusuable on LTE, overheats all the time and no sign of a fix. Other than that the product is great. Strongly recommend folks just get to the BT version as the extra LTE turns a great watch into a bad one. Also deceptive markerting, site claims 21 day trial, yet return period if you buy outright is only 15 days (not stated on the page at all)

Disappointing battery life with GPS

Corey T 9/10/2021

This is my first smart watch. I am just learning how to use. However, the battery life is not great. I used it on twice on 45 minute runs. I had Strava running and I was listening to downloaded material on Spotify. Both times I went from 100% to under 60%. There is no way the watch can handle a long run

Great features is it worth it??

Jess25 9/7/2021

I received my watch 4 last week and so far I don't feel this watch has lived up to the hype. The features on the watch are great. I like that i can leave my phone at home and still and calls and texts. The downside to the watch is that the battery life is nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have been lucky to get 10 hours of battery life after a full charge. The other downside I've experienced this far is that when outdoors it doesn't take long for the watch to overheat. I was really enjoying using my golf app through the watch until it overheated four holes into my round and didn't cool down until i was driving out of the parking lot. Another time i was simply just wearing the watch and it overheated. Both days the temperature was in the low 90's, which is not very hot for Texas weather. Although I do enjoy the features and convenience of the watch, the downsides I've experienced make me doubt if my purchase was worth the money.
